Our story & ethos
Kin Shin Kai was formed to teach a very much more practical understanding of traditional karate and also to be focused on each member’s individual development ahead of the instructor’s status & fortune
Kin Shin Kai is of the Goju Ryu karate tradition but with an ‘old school’ training ethos.
Goju Ryu karate is of the type featured in the original ‘Karate Kid’ movies. Goju Ryu was founded by the original ‘Mr Miyagi’ – Miyagi Chojun (1888-1953)
‘Old school’ refers back to past times where karate had to be much more practical.
Kin Shin Kai is headed by George Ciechanowicz, a master level 7th Dan karate instructor who has been fortunate to learn from some of the world’s finest especially from the late Ohtsuka Tadahiko O-sensei and his Goju Kensha ‘style’.
He is assisted by a team of highly experienced senior instructors
Teaching philosophy wise, we are a small boutique type dojo where we focus on students as individuals, not just as members of a group.
We have been teaching in Ivanhoe and other areas since 1989 and in that time have taught ~1000 students and graduated ~100 Black Belts
We particularly focus on practical Self Defense and Self Development. We are educating the whole person.
We adapt our teaching for age, size, ability & personality
We believe in keeping our groups small & personal
