It was a small turn up for tonight's 7pm class in the Old Hall at Ivanhoe Uniting Church but one that was very focussed. Aside from reviewing the importance of behaving in a confident & assertive but not aggressive manner, led so ably by the very experienced Sensei George Dixon assisted by Sempai Cristian Chiara Tensho, Sanchin & Saifa kata and also Tensho self defense applications were reviewed , plus the 6 Ken sabaki including the higher level 5 hip power generation method and finally some good simple Kihon/basics to finish offGreat session all! ... This week saw an amazing milestone be bestowed on Shihan nick Bell, one of our two most senior students along with Michael Mules.Nick has been involved in learning BJJ for many years but due both to his previous Karate teaching commitments and now his full time career as a senior Tennis coach at 5th Dimension tennis in Glen Waverley, it has been a slow but determined & persevering journey to finally be awarded his Purple belt in BJJ some 6 years after his Blue belt!For those not familiar, BJJ has far fewer belts than most other martial arts and they are fa lot more difficult to achieve and given how few make it this far it's an amazing achievement on Nick's part.A big congratulations Nick! ...
